Three villages to visit in the Conwy Valley.

With Christmas over and the New Year soon upon us, we can all be guilty of sliding into a winter slump. Rather than succumbing to another duvet day, why not visit these Conwy villages?

Llanwrst

Llanwrst is a lovely historic market town that, when coming off the A55 at the Blackcat roundabout near Llandudno Junction, will be the first sizeable town you’ll come to after Glan Conwy. It has a picturesque town centre with an impressive clock tower that takes centre stage in the square. There are plenty of shops to get lost in, many of which deal in antiques and oddities. Llanwrst is also well-known for the beautiful Tu Hwnt i’r Bont tea rooms which sits on the bank of the River Conwy, next to a famous 17th century stone bridge.

Betws-y-coed

When you think of wintery weekends in North Wales, Betws-y-coed instantly springs to mind. The only reason we haven’t put it was number 1 is because it’s the obvious choice. It is a picture-perfect welsh village with a river torrenting through the middle of it. It is also great for shopping with outdoor and designer shops, not to mention its great cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Dolwyddelan

Dolwyddelan has managed to remain something of a hidden gem considering it’s located just 5 miles from Betws-y-coed. Like the other 2 villages in this list, a river runs through the middle which makes for great walks when the weather allows. The village centre isn’t as bustling here but there are still convenience shops, cafes and a pub. The main attraction, however, is one of the finest medieval castles in North Wales situated in an imposing spot atop a hill just outside of the village.
